Connections

This morning we toured Tiananmen Square. Aaron was obsessed with the big portrait of Mao; he wrote a paper this spring on the Warhol painting. So here is a picture with Aaron’s head bigger than Mao’s.



And I kept thinking about the events there twenty years ago this June 4th, and about the parallel things going on, right now, in Tehran.

We spent the rest of the morning in the diametrically opposed Forbidden City next door. Most intriguing to find swastikas there – probably carried there as a Sanskrit symbol, but always a disconcerting reminder.
